Churches Lose Charity Donations Under Obama Budget

March 7, 2009 · 14 Comments

Here I excerpt from a note. One of my readers Robert S. sent a note from the Hal Lindsey Report

On this week’s edition of “The Hal Lindsey Report,” [we see] one of the most recent shockers from the nascent Obama administration. In his proposed 2010 budget, President Obama intends to begin the destruction of charitable giving in America. He proposes to reduce the value of the tax break one can receive by donating to charity.

This is only the beginning. Obama claims that any shortfall will be made up by the government. Think about that… Do you want Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Barney Fwank, et al determining which “charity” receives YOUR  tax dollars? I say “NO”!

Flood your Representatives and Senators with calls telling them this new scam is un-American… Do not pass the 2010 Budget as written!!

It figures. Obama lacks Bush’s wisdom. Faith based initiatives would remove the burden off the government.

    Marianne,

    Thanks for stopping by,

We may wonder “What faith will he be endorsing?”

Yup, I posted on this just yesterday. Obama wants to destroy or control charities. Under his leftist regimen, nothing is to go unregulated. All for our own good, you understand.

    Tom,

I still wonder — had America known more about the BO man, would they have voted for him?

A certain number of the illiteratti, yes but not the majority.

We Conservative bloggers tried to warn but were overwhelmed by the MSM and the complacency of voters.

There is no place in prophecy for a Judeo-Christian superpower to rival the power of the anti-christ and his system, or a powerful friend to Israel. Israel must be alone, with only God as her stalwart. The Remnant is being buried by the lukewarm liars who will follow the evil trinity in their ecumenical moderation. It is all coming to pass as it was written.

In the midst of a recession/depression, let’s make it so even fewer people give to the church! Wow!

    Thanks for the post,

This news is no shock to most of us. We all new Obama’s plan is to dismantle all worthwhile American institutions and our sense of self-worth and independence.

He wants Americans to look to his government for all of their needs and hopes. He wants us to give up on ourselves, our neighbors and our churches.

Once a majority of Americans give up on our great institutions and our heritage of independence guided by Jedeo-Christian ethics he can gain ultimate power over the masses.

Keep praying for America and our churches.

    God Bless,

I believe it was Gramsci (Italian communist) who said the three things that prevent socialism/communism from taking over a country are 1) religion 2)nationalism 3)charity

Obama is one of a long line of wicked leftists trying to destroy our country by chipping away at all 3 of these things. “Separation of church and state!” they cry. “Global citizens!” And now, “depend on the government, not the charitable impulses of those kooky religious freaks.”

It’s all of a piece. The dominoes have been tumbling, slowly, for years and years… it’s just that they are starting to fall with catastrophic power and speed now.

There is a peculiar inconsistency among liberals. They seem to favor taxation to punish people for “unacceptable” behavior (such as driving too much), but refuse to reward people for laudable behavior (such as giving to the needy).

We must therefore conclude that in spite of their rhetoric, socialists don’t really care about the needy at all; if they did, they would encourage private donation. Apparently, charity is only laudable when the government presumes to do this on our behalf.

“Render unto Caesar that which is Ceasar’s, and … to God that which is God’s”

The problem isn’t Obama or any tax law made by any political party ever; the problem is Christians who give to the church (back to God) to get a tax break.

Oh yes, I blogged on this last month.

And it’s worse than just a tax deduction they’re looking to take away. They want to regulate charities. These people will be satisfied with nothing less than total control; a “soft tyranny,” if you will.

  • expreacherman // April 11, 2009 at 9:35 am

    Thanks Tom,

Maybe “soft” tyranny now — but soon, I fear, the iron fist of totalitarianism.

Our dear Republic was warned many times before the election but chose state control rather than freedom.

I think we need to examine ourselves and figure out our motivation for giving. Australia for one doesn’t give tax credits for church donations, and they are doing ok. If people stop giving to the church once the donations are gone i seriously question where their committment is. We are called to give generously, at all times.

It might hurt a little, but it doesn’t change our duties to our churches. And we can be afriad of tyrany all we want but the truth is we’ve been lucky for a long time, lots of people in other places in the world have to deal with alot more.

I for one think it sucks abit that this would happen, but I choose to remain in God, and loving Him first, and trusting that He will supply what I need, and see my heart. Obama can never take that from me!

    Dawn,

Thanks so much for your excellent comment.

You are right in many ways.. But so much like our welfare state, churches and givers are addicted to tax deductions. But I have friends who have refused to file 501(c3) tax deductible corporate churches for this very reason. They are afraid of government and rightly so.

Like all other welfare, we would have been better off never starting it and we would have adjusted — allowing the Lord and believers dedication to the Lord to provide funds apart from government.

But how do churches, who have been used to the deduction, wean themselves off… I prefer it not be by government fiat — but voluntarily. Just as we decide to trust Christ voluntarily so should we serve Him support Biblical ministries voluntarily

    Great point, Dawn.

    In Jesus Christ eternally,
